Realtors, homeowners more willing to price competitively, survey finds

Good news for prospective home buyers: A new survey finds that sellers are more willing than ever before to offer competitive prices on homes.

The Coldwell Banker survey of more than 600 affiliated real estate professionals found that 51 percent of sellers are more willing to price competitively than at this point last year. Sellers are also looking to entice buyers by modifying a home's appearance, or "de-personalizing" a home. Roughly 45 percent of those surveyed said they were more willing to do this than they were one year ago.

"De-personalizing and making it easy for a buyer to imagine him or herself living in the property is crucial, especially when there are many homes on the market," according to Jessica Edwards, Coldwell Banker real estate consumer specialist.

Homeowners are taking the cue from real estate agents. Roughly 78 percent of agents surveyed said their clients were willing to de-personalize their home in order to make it more universally appealing to prospective buyers. Almost 60 percent of realtors said their clients were willing to redecorate and bring in new furniture.

Veterans can take advantage of VA home loans when purchasing a house. While the home loans follow market rate, they do not require additional insurance like most other home loans, making them less expensive in the long term, according to VA officials.
