Veterans receive assistance from California support group
1/26/2011
California servicemembers are receiving help from the Morro Bay Veterans Support Group, which hosted its first meeting last week. Officials who put the group together educated military members about
veterans benefits, according to California news provider KSBY.
There were about 30 attendees at the meeting, and veterans were informed about services they were eligible for, the news source reported.
"Every day we have people come in our office and say they didn't know they were eligible for health care, or they didn't know they were eligible to get glasses through the clinic," said Paul Burns, a veteran of the Navy who works with the San Luis Obispo County Veterans Services Office.
There are many federal, state, and local
VA benefits that provide assistance to servicemembers. There are benefits that provide medical assistance to military members who are suffering from illnesses caused by Agent Orange, which was a chemical used during the Vietnam War. Other benefits, such as the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill, can cover college tuition and other educational expenses.
